Shots fired on Lake City's north side

A daytime shooting Wednesday left one man airlifted with multiple gunshot wounds and police combing northern Lake City for a potential suspect with a crowd of onlookers gathering in the area. The Lake City Police Department received a call around 4 p.m.

City repairs CHS water main break

City utility crews worked late into the night Tuesday fixing a water main break at Columbia High School. Terri Phillips, Lake City community program manager, said the workers were repairing a broken 8-inch water main at the school. She said the break was caused by a stress crack.

Jordan recalled for intellect, compassion

A long-time local attorney known for his compassion and generosity as well as his prowess with the law,  Robert F. “Bob” Jordan will leave a hole in Lake City and Columbia County. The community champion died Dec. 24 at the age of 70 after a brief illness.

CCFR douses brush fire in western Columbia County

A brush fire in western Columbia County consumed several acres of property Tuesday afternoon as it was pushed by windy conditions. Several Columbia County Fire Rescue units spent more than an hour dousing the wind-aided brush fire before it could ignite additional acreage.

Lollipop close to sweet deal with city

The Lollipop Children Center is closing in on a sweet deal to rent the city’s Girls Club property.

Health department vaccinates 530 during drive-through event

The lines weren’t long, but the Columbia County Health Department still made a lot of progress Monday. The health department began administering the Moderna covid-19 vaccine Monday to county residents, 65 and older.

In-person court proceedings called off

The paintings and other objects that adorn the walls of Judge Tom Coleman’s office offer an apt description into the man who has served Columbia County for nearly two decades. The paintings show hunters chasing their quarry and an outdoorsman enjoying nature’s solitude.
