LIVE OAK — CSX’s plans for a new communications tower wasn’t derailed Tuesday. But the Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners did pump the brakes on the railroad company’s proposed project.

It was over almost as soon as it began. Minutes after alerting the public to a standoff on East Duval Street, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office had their suspect in custody. Samuel Scott Anderson, 32, exited the house at the corner of East Duval Street and SE McCray Avenue around 11:35 a.m.

STEINHATCHEE — If fishing is more pleasurable depending on the company, a large group of veterans might’ve had their best day ever on the water this past weekend.

FORT WHITE — Trying to find “clear air” turned into a crash landing Saturday morning. A helicopter crashed along State Road 47 near SW Sedgefield Farms Glen in southern Columbia County around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
