Columbia set to name top teacher, school employee

One teacher in Columbia County will drive away Thursday with the title of Teacher of the Year — and a brand new car. The Columbia County School District’s Teacher of the Year ceremony will be held Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at the Blanche Hotel.

Columbia County officials plan to keep moving forward with their plan to provide the utilities for the North Florida Mega Industrial Park. Except for natural gas and unless the county decides to try a concept that involves using Lake City’s wells for water use.

Early morning rollover leads to minor injuries

A Trenton man suffered minor injuries when his pickup overturned after hitting a semi truck. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 57-year-old Trenton man was stopped at the intersection of County Road 240 and State Road 247 at 6:42 a.m. in a 2019 Chevrolet pickup.

MCALPIN — A 9-year-old boy has been reported missing in Suwannee County. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an alert Saturday night that Jaxon Nickerson, who was last seen near the 7000 block of 160th Trail off County Road 252 near McAlpin on Friday.

Pier pressure: FWC seeks funding to replace dock at Lake Montgomery

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking to land a big one. Five years after the dock was removed from Lake Montgomery due to safety concerns, FWC is hoping a new pier can be installed in its place.

Lake City’s Tannenbaum appointed to USDA role

A Lake City native is now the face of the United States Department of Agriculture. At least in Florida. Deborah Tannenbaum was appointed as the USDA state executive director for Florida by President Joe Biden on Thursday. Tannenbaum will begin in the position in mid-February.
