A contingent of Lake City VA Medical Center supporters from South Georgia recently brought several boxes of goodies to the facility, hoping to give veterans some added cheer during the Christmas holiday season.

Market-ing success: Vendors, visitors have ‘blast’ at holiday event

Christmas came early to Lake City. More than 200 vendors from across the region took over Olustee Park and Wilson Park on Saturday, offering local residents the chance to both complete their Christmas shopping lists and get to know new and local small businesses.

The Gainesville Pops, a group modeled after the Boston Pops, will be performing a Christmas show this weekend as part of the Community Concerts of Lake City. Gainesville Pops will perform 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Levy Performing Arts Center on the campus of Florida Gateway College.

Pedestrian hit, killed by pickup Sunday

A Lake City man was struck by a pickup and killed while walking in northwest Columbia County on Sunday evening. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 50-year-old man was walking along NW White Springs Avenue just north of the Springville Community Center around 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

For the last six months, construction crews have been building a new Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on US Highway 90, working toward completing the new six-story building. Friday morning the construction workers had a brief new focus.

Lake City’s treatment wetlands are expanding. As part of $75 million worth of funding for springs restoration projects announced Friday by Gov. Ron DeSantis was $6.1 million to the City of Lake City to expand its recharge wetlands.
