COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Woeful defense has Florida as 3-TD underdog vs. No. 1 Georgia

GAINESVILLE — Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson was surprised, maybe even shocked, to learn the Gators were three-touchdown underdogs against rival and top-ranked Georgia. “That’s crazy,” Richardson said. It has little, if anything, to do with Richardson.

PREP FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: 3 things of interest from Week 9's games

Big-time players make big-time plays. Two of Columbia’s best did that on Friday against Gadsden County, and they were critical plays in a 35-22 win. The first came on the opening kickoff when Florida State commit Camdon Frier returned the boot 86 yards to put the Tigers up 8-0 13 seconds in.

BOYS GOLF: CHS, LHS finish runner-up at districts, SHS places third to move on to regionals

Columbia placed second at the District 2-2A tournament on Monday at the Country Club of Lake City with a 343 total, just eight strokes back of champion Lincoln. Leading the Tigers was Connor Williams, who shot a 78.

NFL: Jaguars trade RB James Robinson to Jets for late-round draft pick

JACKSONVILLE — The New York Jets moved quickly to replace rookie running back Breece Hall. The Jets traded a conditional late-round draft pick to Jacksonville on Monday for James Robinson, according to a person familiar with the deal.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Columbia boys, both Suwannee teams qualify for regionals

Jose Rodriguez placed 21st at the District 2-3A meet on Saturday at Matanzas High School with a personal-best time of 17:05.60 to lead Columbia to an eight-place finish, good enough for the entire team to advance to regionals.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Florida, Georgia officials release statement on future of rivalry game

As the home team in Saturday's neutral site game against Florida, No. 1 Georgia can leave tickets at the gate for recruits. For Georgia coach Kirby Smart, that's not nearly enough to make up for his defending national championship team's inability to host recruits as he would in a true home game.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia holds off Gadsden County behind 4 INTs, big night rushing

Camdon Frier set the tone early. The rest of Columbia followed his lead. The Florida State commit returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown while the defense forced five turnovers with four interceptions that included a pick-6 by Indiana commit Amare Ferrell.
