The Lake City Council seems split on the future of a potential housing authority. The council heard a proposal from financial consultant Nicholas Narducci of NJN Consulting Services Inc. during a workshop ahead of its Monday meeting.

A search for illegal narcotics instead landed a knife-wielding man in jail early Monday morning. The Lake City Police Department reported an incident near U.S. Highway 90 and NW Bascom Norris Drive around 4 a.m. where a man threatened another with a knife.

Pipe attack leads to attempted murder charges

An attack with a pipe Sunday morning led to attempted murder charges on a Lake City man. A Lake City Police Department release said a man with severe lacerations to his head was found walking along SE Baya Drive around 11 a.m. Sunday, appearing to have been hit with a blunt object.

A single vehicle crash that hospitalized the driver is under investigation by the Lake City Police Department. According to an LCPD release, officers responded around 1:30 a.m.

ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Lake City looks to open next month and it has its medical director on board. The new 36-bed medical rehabilitation hospital recently name Dr. Yvette Little as the medical director.

The state’s second immigrant detention center is taking root next door. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday the state plans to use Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson, just east of Columbia County on U.S. Highway 90, to boost detention of people targeted for deportation.
