Shelter earns ‘no kill’ status

The Lake City Humane Society has gained a ’no kill shelter’ designation from a national organization in what board members believe is a first for the organization.
Meridian Healthcare has requested a comprehensive inspection on the Lake Shore hospital building over concerns of ‘potential deterioration’ that has occurred over the past three years. Meridian seeks comprehensive hospital inspection

The Lake Shore Hospital Authority is awaiting clarification as to Meridian Healthcare’s request for an inspection of the main Lake Shore hospital building.

County looks to finalize disaster response plan

Columbia County officials are hoping to have a disaster response plan in place before any impacts from hurricane season are felt here this year.

FGC graduates honored as first-year teachers

Three recent graduates of Florida Gateway College’s Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program and first-year teachers are being recognized as outstanding educators serving their local school districts and communities.

STUDY: New City Hall cost up to $11.755M

A potential new Lake City Hall will come with a high price tag. A feasibility study, performed by Brame Heck Architects, shows a cost of a new city hall near the current Customer Service building on NW Hillsboro Street would range from $9.659 million to $11.755 million.

While Lake City officials attempt to scramble through the process of giving back a local landmark, planning by the two other parties innvolved has already begun.

New CCFR station aims for August opening

Columbia County Fire Rescue administrative staff and firefighters housed at Station 51 on Lake Jeffery Road are anticipating moving into an upgraded station by the end of August.

Fourth full of fireworks, fun

Whether they were just waiting to watch fireworks, listening to live entertainment, or competing in old-fashioned carnival games, thousands of people filed into the Florida Gateway Fairgrounds on Friday afternoon for the inaugural 4th of July Celebration 2025: More Than Just Fireworks.

Sparks seeks to save Club House

The Club House on Lake Isabella may have had a new lifeline thrown its way. The Lake City Council hosted a workshop ahead of its regular scheduled Monday meeting regarding the sagging historic building.
