Law enforcement has reported the first four arrests in Columbia County related to breaking the governor’s stay-at-home order, but they were all people who were headed to jail anyway.

A Lake City man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on State Road 247 over the weekend, troopers say.  William Cummings, 58, was driving a 2018 Dodge Durango south on SR 247 near the intersection with Southwest Mill Lane around 2:55 a.m. Saturday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The oregano defense, an excuse countless teens have tried but few parents fall for, didn’t work out for a Lake City man during a Saturday night traffic stop, either, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Columbia County received notice of two new confirmed covid-19 cases, raising the total to fifteen confirmed covid-19 cases. The new individuals ill with the virus are a 20-year-old female, and a 62 year-old male.
On Friday, a member of the Lake City Police Department tested positive for covid-19. The officer is currently in isolation at home and is in good condition.

On Friday, a member of the Lake City Police Department tested positive for covid-19. The officer is currently in isolation at home and is in good condition. The officer had not exhibited symptoms and received a voluntary test as a precaution, as have many other first responders.
