District to honor best teachers, employees

The Columbia County Public Schools Foundation’s biggest night has gotten even bigger. The foundation is hosting its Excellence in Education banquet today at 5:30 p.m. at The Blanche Hotel, 212 N. Marion Avenue, to honors its best teachers, staff members and principals and assistant principals.

Gas leak forces shelter order

A Lake City neighborhood was barricaded and cordoned off from motorists for about three hours Monday evening as city employees addressed a natural gas leak in the Cypress Landing subdivision.

CCSO employee dies in UTV crash

FORT WHITE – A captain with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office died when his utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crashed late Saturday night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the UTV was headed eastbound on SW Illinois Street in Fort White around 10:30 p.m.

State moves to revoke Hutto’s bond

A Wellborn manslaughter suspect may soon find himself behind bars. The state has filed a motion to revoke bond on Michael Troy Hutto, the 56-year-old millionaire who lives in Wellborn and is facing a manslaughter charge in the October 2020 shooting death of Lake City teen Grace Duncan.

Child killed in I-10 wreck

A small child was killed following an accident on Interstate 10 on Thanksgiving night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pair of sedans were headed east on I-10 when one began passing the other around 7:41 p.m.
