Cops: Pair gave minor drugs, alcohol before sexual battery

A Lake City man and woman face multiple charges after reportedly sexually battering a juvenile after giving the minor alcohol and drugs and tying them up. A Columbia County deputy responded to the emergency room at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital on Monday to the report of a sexual battery.

A McAlpin man was killed Tuesday morning when the vehicle he was riding in failed to stop at a stop sign in southwestern Columbia County.

Burglary spree ends in arrest

A Lake City man was apprehended Sunday after a string of three burglaries in three days. According to a Lake City Police Department release, Zacchaeus Beverly, 27, was suspected in burglaries Friday and Saturday before officers were called to a residence on SE Date Street at 11:30 a.m.

Lake DeSoto is clean once more. The Rotary Club of Lake City Downtown conducted one of its biannual Lake DeSoto cleanup days Saturday, collecting approximately 100 pounds of trash and debris from the downtown lake.

City delays search, salary votes

Lake City’s search for a new city manager will wait a few more weeks. As will discussion on Interim City Manager Dee Johnson’s salary and the pay for the Lake City Council itself. For the second straight meeting, the council tabled those items until a full council can meet.
