Body armor clad man charged for firing shots

The sounds of daytime gunfire led local authorities to an area near the Columbia County School District’s main office late Thursday morning. After speaking with a couple of witnesses, an additional gunshot allegedly led them back to one of those witnesses.

Failed robbery ends in arrest

A robbery gone wrong recently landed a Lake City man behind bars. According to a Lake City Police Department release, officers were dispatched to Jersey Mike’s Subs at 2888 W U.S. Highway 90 around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night. Officers were told a burglary was in progress.

City discussing manager candidates this month

The City of Lake City’s search for a full-time administrator will heat up next week. With 21 candidates for the city manager position — one of the 22 applicants withdrew prior to the Feb.

Return of Olustee: Festival set for next weekend

Columbia County’s oldest and largest festival is set to make its annual return next weekend. The 45th Olustee Festival will take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17, at Wilson Park with a Saturday evening concert by the Jason Lee McKinney Band rounding out the festivities.

Community Concerts of Lake City presents The Humdingers barbershop quartet this weekend. The Humdingers, one of the nation’s preeminent barbershop quartets, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Levy Performing Arts Center on the Florida Gateway College campus.

Downtown Art Stroll returning to Lake City

Folks perusing the downtown area this weekend hoping to satisfy their cravings for sweets will also be able to take in some eye candy when local art and retail venues take part in the February Downtown Art Stroll. The Downtown Art Stroll will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
