Congressman Neal Dunn, who represents a swath of North Florida that includes the majority of Columbia County voters, has shaken off covid-19 and is back at work, according to his office.

Rep. Dunn, a Republican based in Panama City who represents Florida’s 2nd Congressional District, tested positive in early April and placed himself into self-isolation. The virus is now out of his system, according to a statement from Dunn’s office.

“Congressman Dunn is in excellent condition following his COVID-19 diagnosis,” the statement reads. “He has recently tested negative and returned to work last week to vote in support of the Paycheck Protection Program & Health Care Enhancement Act. Thank you all for the well wishes and support! Congressman Dunn is excited to be back and fighting on behalf of Florida-02.”

Dunn has also filed and qualified to run for re-election. He will no opposition in the primary and only two write-in opponents in November, Florida Department of State records show.

The 67-year-old congressman felt unwell the evening of April 6 and went to the emergency room later that night out of an “abundance of caution,” according to a statement released the same week.

After meeting the criteria set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, Dunn was tested for the virus and received notice that the results came back positive, the statement reads.

Dunn quarantined himself at home per CDC guidelines, but was “feeling great” within a matter of days, his office said.
