LIVE OAK - Students in Suwannee County will have a few more days off before returning to school.
Suwannee County Superintendent Ted Roush announced Sunday afternoon that the Suwannee County School District won't resume normal operations for students until Wednesday.
Students were already scheduled to be off Monday for a professional development day for teachers even prior to Hurricane Helene. The storm closed the schools Thursday and Friday last week and now recovery and restoration efforts will keep the schools closed Tuesday as well.
"We hope that you and your family are making progress on the road to recovery and a gradual return to normalcy," Roush said in the release. "Thank you and we look forward to welcoming your children back on Wednesday."
All of the other districts in the area announced Saturday that schools would remain closed Monday, including Columbia, Hamilton and Lafayette counties, and Florida Gateway College.
Columbia County Schools are having 12-month employees reporting to work Monday to assess the classrooms and offices at all the school facilities. A decision on Tuesday will be announced once that assessment is completed.
Hamilton County's announcement Saturday said it plans to resume normal operations Tuesday.
