Semi crashes, drives vehicles into Mayo Laundromat

MAYO — Some additional repair work is going to be needed at an automotive shop in Mayo.

A 2016 Freightliner semi truck and trailer drove off U.S. Highway 27 for unknown reasons around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, crashing into six vehicles into the parking lot of Auto Unique on the north side of Mayo, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Three of the vehicles then traveled through the adjacent Mayo Laundromat building. The semi, which was driven by a 52-year-old Jacksonville man, also partially crashed into the laundromat.

When the semi left U.S. 27, it also struck a utility pole, snapping the pole off at the ground.

The truck driver was transported to HCA Suwannee ER in Live Oak with minor injuries.

The highway was still shut down mid-morning Tuesday due to emergency vehicles and removing the semi from the laundromat.
