BELL — Authorities claim a Bell man was doing more than helping a dog give birth at a residence there in June.
Joseph O’Brian Rush, 22, was arrested Thursday for second-degree murder, according to a release from the  Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office.
GSCO deputies responded to a Bell residence on June 27 regarding a deceased person, according to the joint FDLE and GCSO release.
When deputies arrived, they found Rush at the residence. However, he told deputies that he was there helping a dog deliver puppies and didn’t witness the person’s death.
An autopsy at the medical examiner’s office determined the death was a homicide and FDLE’s assistance was requested on June 28.
The joint investigation led to a warrant for Rush’s arrest. He was booked into the Gilchrist County Jail following his arrest Thursday.
The case will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s office for the Eighth Judicial Circuit.
