FGC welcomes back students

The Florida Gateway College Charles W. Hall Student Center was a little busier than normal Wednesday morning. Wednesday was the first day of classes for the spring semester and college was hosting its welcome back event, which resulted in scores of students at the center for different services.

LifeSouth celebrates Blood Donor Month

In time to celebrate National Blood Donor Month, the LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are also looking for donations. According to LifeSouth, blood shortages are impacting the local community so donors are needed to offset that, making this year’s celebration in January an important one.

The Lake City Police Department will host a Farm Share event this weekend where it plans to give more than 20,000 pounds of food to local residents. The Farm Share distribution will begin at 8 a.m.

Three months after shooting a neighbor’s dog to keep him out of the garbage, a Lake City man faces charges for animal cruelty. Bradley Harris, 43, was arrested Tuesday for torturing or inflicting serious pain to an animal. According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office report from Oct.

The sounds of 80s music, as well as gospel, rock and roll, country western and even hip hop, will fill the air this weekend during a singing competition. The 13th annual Southside Idol will take place 6 p.m. Saturday at the Florida Gateway College Levy Performing Arts Center.
