Three nominated for county judge

The search for Columbia County’s next judge is down to three. The Third Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission spent several hours at the Columbia County Courthouse on Monday, including more than two hours of interviews before deliberating on potential county judge appointees.

Lake City rapper arrested for fleeing fatal crash

GAINESVILLE — A Lake City rapper is facing multiple charges after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash in Gainesville on Friday. According to a Gainesville Police Department report, 21-year-old Eric Baker, who is also known as Raw Youngin, was stopped at 6:41 p.m.

LCFD quickly extinguishes shed fire

The Lake City Fire Department needed just a few minutes Monday afternoon to extinguish a small shed fire. Dispatched to SW Clements Place, right across South Marion Avenue from the Florida Department of Transportation, just before 1 p.m. Monday, LCFD crews found a shed behind a residence on fire.

One dead, one injured in Baya Drive crash

A head-on collision Thursday afternoon on Baya Drive killed one. A Florida Highway Patrol release said a Wellborn woman was headed west on Baya Drive around 3:25 p.m. when her sedan crossed the center line just east of KC’s Produce by Lochlynn Terrace.

GOP hosting first candidate rally

Candidates running for office will have a chance to speak directly to the people Tuesday. The Columbia County Republican Party is hosting the first of its two free candidate rallies Tuesday at the Westside Community Center, 431 SW Birley Avenue in Lake City, starting at 6 p.m.
