School board sets hearing on zoning

The Columbia County School District is considering new school rezoning maps, with the imminent arrival of a new school, the closure of one, construction of another school and an overall decline in student population.

Bus crash sends students to ER

SUWANNEE RANCHETTES — Several students spent Wednesday morning at the emergency room with minor injuries instead of school after a crash involving a Suwannee County school bus. The crash, which is still being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol, occurred at 7:35 a.m.

Warren gets probation for theft, resisting

Plea agreements concluded a pair of cases involving an outspoken Lake City resident. Sylvester Warren III pleaded guilty Wednesday to a pair of misdemeanors, receiving 12 months of probation in both cases, which will run concurrently.

One killed in fatal fire

A structure fire claimed a life Monday morning when flames swept through a mobile home in the Five Points area. The fire occurred at 129 NW Deer Run, a mobile home park north of Lake City.

A flurry of moves, motions and deals swept through the latest Lake Shore Hospital Authority meeting. After the dust had settled, however, only one property was finally dealt with, though it was the biggest piece of the pie.

Dicks named top Realtor after early career launch

Brad Dicks’ path to becoming Realtor of the Year started a long time ago. In fact, by Dicks’ estimation, his start in real estate came around 47 years ago. When his school day ended, Dicks’ entrance into the family business began. His father, Lenvil, would pick him up and they’d go to work.

Murder suspect captured after manhunt

FORT WHITE — A Santa Rosa County murder suspect was apprehended Saturday in southeastern Suwannee County following a two-day, multi-county search. Toby White, a 31-year-old Milton man, was captured Saturday afternoon around 1:30 p.m.

Lake City man sentenced to 20 years for child porn

A Lake City man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography on a social media site. William Ervin Daniels, 45, was sentenced Friday by Chief U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard after he pleaded guilty in September 2024.

LSHA seeks meeting with city

While the City of Lake City and the Lake Shore Hospital Authority continue to share confusion regarding Land Development Regulations affecting parts of the LSHA campus, the Authority has moved forward with steps to potentially resolve that conflict.
