An escaped prisoner didn’t get far Monday afternoon.

Shortly after lunchtime, 38-year-old Eric McKenzie escaped the work release facility near Lake Jeffery Road.

Within an house, McKenzie was apprehended in the wooded area near the work release center near NW Cluster Drive.

After McKenzie’s release, a perimeter was established and the Florida Department of Corrections K-9 teams were called in to assist in the search for McKenzie.

McKenzie was sentenced in November for two years and six months for fleeing law enforcement without regard and one year and six months for fleeing and eluding and criminal mischief with property damage in Baker County.

According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office release, Sheriff Mark Hunter thanked the “community for their cooperation and all the agencies involved for working together to produce a quick and positive outcome!”
