Council seeks to save Club House

In a meeting that lasted nearly four hour and attracted a full room, there was consensus among the Lake City Council on one major topic: save the historic Club House on Lake Isabella.

The fate of the 102-year-old building, which is owned by the city but leased to the Lake City Woman’s Club and Garden Club, was on the agenda after it was closed last spring due to safety concerns after trusses in the building broke. The city had received quotes to shore up the building to do a thorough inspection of what it would take to repair the roof as well as demolishing the facility.

The council took no formal action on the item Tuesday night but all five councilors stressed their desire to see the building saved.

Nearly two dozen members of the Woman’s Club and Garden Club attended the meeting.

More details will be in Thursday’s edition.
