PREP TRACK & FIELD: Columbia, Suwannee perform well at Raider Invitational

Columbia and Suwannee were both in action at Santa Fe’s Raider Invitational on Saturday.

Seth Stockton led the CHS boys, not only winning the long jump (6.50m) but also the triple jump (14.78m). He also competed in the javelin for the first time and placed sixth with a throw of 36.44m in addition to anchoring the boys 4x400 team, which finished fifth in a time of 3:41.50.

Other notable performances for the CHS boys included Jose Rodriguez winning the 800m in a time of 2:02.40, and he was also a member of the victorious 4x800 squad with Jacob McLeod, LaWarren Newton and Nathan Matsubara that won in a time of 8:42.50. Trevis Johnson continued his breakout season by finishing second in the 100m in a time of 11.05 and the 400m in a time of 51.40.

The CHS boys 4x100 relay team of Dwayne Cascen, D’Mari Bruce, Kaden Mckire and Johnson finished in third in a time of 44.05 seconds.

As for the CHS girls, Kyndall Norris won the javelin throw with a toss of 26.81m. Abigail Candler finished second in the 800m in a time of 2:35.30 and the 4x100 relay team of Gellisa Serrand, Omari Foster, J’Liyn Smith, and Stacy White also placed second in a time of 51.18 seconds.

White also finished fourth in the 100m in a time of 12.99 and placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 9.80. Sarah Simpson had a strong performance as well in the 800m with a fourth place finish in a time of 2:43.60.

Will Wainwright took home two victories for the SHS boys, winning the discus (48.64m) and javelin (48.99m) in addition to placing second in the shot put (13.18m). Morgan Mobley also won the 1600m (4:39.09) and finished third in the 800m (2:04.27).

Other notable performances for the SHS boys included Clay Starling taking second in the pole vault (8 feet, 10.25 inches) and third in the third in the 110m hurdles (17.20); Sam Wainwright placing second in the javelin (45.24m) and third in the discus (39.73m); and Taydren Derico finishing third in the triple jump (12.68m) and fifth in the long jump (6.24m).

Kay’lyona Cuffy and Ryleigh Hermanson led the SHS girls with two victories, with Cuffy winning the discus (31.37m) and shot put (10.82m) while Hermanson took gold in the 1600m (5:40.75) and 3200m (12:28.81).

Maddie McMillan also placed second in the pole vault (7 feet, 4.5 inches), Janeah Mitchell placed second in the triple jump (9.93), and Doshia White placed third in the shot put (9.47m).
