PREP SWIMMING: Conklin leads list of regional qualifiers for Suwannee

Raegan Conklin placed second in the girls 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle to lead a list of regional qualifiers for Suwannee at Thursday’s District 3-2A meet at Planet Swim in Fernandina Beach.

Conklin’s 50 freestyle time of 27.68 seconds was the 12th fastest in Region 1-2A, while her time of 59.90 seconds in the 100 freestyle was the 10th fastest in the region. The senior was also a regional qualifier in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming on the quartet with Ainsleigh Pack, Oliviah Schneider and Hannah Mantooth that placed fifth at 1:54.14 for the 10th fastest time in the region.

Pack is also moving on to regionals individually in the 50 freestyle (placed fourth at 28.74, 17th fastest in region) and 100 freestyle (placed fifth at 1:02.53, 14th fastest in region). Schneider placed fifth in the 200 IM at 2:45.58 (15th fastest in region) and sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.23, 21st fastest in region) to advance to regionals, while Mantooth qualified for regionals in the 200 IM (eighth at districts at 3:00.41, 23rd fastest in region) and 100 backstroke (ninth at districts at 1:21.26, 25th fastest in region).

The Suwannee girls 400 freestyle relay team consisting of Brooklyn Long, Virginia Mayhew, Aubrey Baum and Alexi Pack is also moving on to regionals after placing fifth at districts (4:55.61, 12th fastest time in region).

John Abersold and Cade Cannon led the SHS boys, each qualifying individually in a pair of events. Abersold placed fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.56, 22nd fastest in region) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:14.20, 25th fastest in region), while Cannon finished fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:07.58, 17th fastest in region) and sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:38.99, 16th fastest in region).

Abersold and Cannon also swam with William Cerritos and Camden Swartz on the 200 freestyle relay team that’s moving on. That quartet placed fifth in a time of 1:46.02, which was 12th fastest in the region. Cannon will also swim at regionals in the 400 freestyle relay with Jacob Kirkland, Jason Cerritos and Jorge Aguilar after the team placed sixth at districts in 4:26.72 for the 14th fastest time in the region.

Cerritos was a regional qualifier individually in the 100 freestyle, placing eighth in 59.44 seconds for the 24th fastest time in the region. Swartz also qualified for regionals in the event after placing ninth in 59.64 seconds, which was the 25th fastest time in the region.

The Region 1-2A meet is scheduled for Thursday at the Florida Aquatics Swimming Training in Ocala.
