PREP ROUNDUP: Suwannee girls win Dueling Summits, Hermanson places 2nd

Ryleigh Hermanson placed second at the Dueling Summits with a time of 21:59.20 to lead the Suwannee girls cross country team to first place with 38 points, edging runner-up Chiles by 15 on Saturday at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park in Tallahassee.

The SHS girls had two more runners place in the top 10 and another two place top 15, including Olivia Hermanson (fifth, 22:25.50), Sadie Siemon (ninth, 22:56.90), Arwen Haley (12th, 23:23.80) and Virginia Mayhew (14th, 23:59.40). Madison Chamberlin (25th, 25:56.90) and Emily Rodgers (28th, 26:07.70) wrapped up the scoring for the lady Bulldogs.

The Suwannee boys placed sixth out of 18 teams, led by a sixth-place finish from Logan Haley (17:51.40). Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Brig Scott (11th, 18:46.10), Kale Skinner (32nd, 20:00.80), Brant Johnson (47th, 20:23.70), Drew Hurst (61st, 21:13.70), Josiah Daniels (67th, 21:30.20) and Daniel Stoltzfoos (71st, 21:41.10).

THOMPSON, TODD LEAD CHS

Joshua Thompson placed 19th with a time of 18:27 to lead the Columbia boys cross country team to 11th out of 36 teams at the Cecil Field Summer Classic on Friday at New World Golf in Jacksonville. Nathan Matsubara was the second CHS runner to cross the finish line in 36th (18:56), followed by Brandyn Pope (65th, 19:34), John Ringenberg (100th, 20:07), LaWarren Newton (168th, 21:27), Jacob Mcleod (192nd, 22:34) and Tyler Cole (212th, 23:45).

For the CHS girls, Reese Todd led the way in 39th with a time of 23:32 to help her squad finish 19th. Also scoring for the lady Tigers were Laelle Thompson (91st, 25:18), Kiara Thompson (112th, 25:53), Kensi Shaw (155th, 27:41), Paola Ortiz (165th, 27:58), Melanie Gordon (177th, 28:33) and Marlee Hunt (209th, 31:45).

VOLLEYBALL

Branford won two out of three matches in a quad match at Oak Hall on Saturday. The Buccaneers (3-3) defeated St. John Paul II 2-0 (25-8, 25-11), lost to Oak Hall 2-0 (25-19, 25-15) and the bounced back to end the day with a 2-1 win over Dixie County (20-25, 25-18, 15-5).
