BOYS WEIGHTLIFTING

Columbia placed third at the District 3-2A meet on Thursday, tallying 42 points behind Middleburg (84) and host Baker County (65).

Au’vontae Smith won the Tigers’ lone individual title, posting a 550 total to win the 238 weight class by 35 pounds to clinch an automatic berth to regionals. The rest of Columbia’s lifters will now wait for possible at-large berths, which could include second-place finishers Tyson Yaxley (525 total in 183), Tony Fulton (605 total in 199) and Javon Bradley (515 total in 238).

Fulton also placed second in the Olympic with a 490 total, losing a first-place tiebreaker for weight. Henry Camiel placed third in the unlimited class with a 480 total, and Zaher Darwiche finished third in the Olympic with a 480 total in the 199 class.

Finishing fourth in the traditional for the Tigers included Vincent Muraci (190 total in 119) and Landon Oglesby (345 total in 129). Luke Feagle (300 total in 139), Jalin Carter 400 total in 169) and David Harps (430 total in 219) all placed fifth.

Four Tigers came in sixth, including Jackson Woodley (200 total in 129), Cameron Stephenson (320 total in 139 class), Talon Hudson 380 total in 169 class) and Colton Williams 415 total in 219). Zachary Grimes took seventh in unlimited with a 425 total.

BASEBALL

— Columbia 7, Forest 1: Ayden Phillips had two RBIs while Brayden Thomas, Camdon Frier, Carston Palmer and Josh Fernald each had one to lead the Class 5A No. 6 Tigers (13-2) past the Wildcats (7-7) in Ocala on Thursday night. Fernald threw six innings on the mound for the win, striking out 11 batters while allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk.

— Hamilton County 8 Branford 7: The Buccaneers (4-5) allowed a five-run sixth inning as the Trojans (10-6) rallied for a win at home Thursday night. Thomas Sikes was charged with the loss, allowing two unearned runs on no hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning. Dawson Cannon had two RBIs for BHS, while Andres Maysonet, Haiden Ward, Gavin Barnes and Sikes each had one.

SOFTBALL

—Madison County 4, Suwannee 2: Braylyn Federico and Haley Law each had an RBI, but the Bulldogs (9-3) lost to the Cowgirls (4-9) at home Thursday night. Pitcher Grace Watley struck out 12 batters but allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks.

FLAG FOOTBALL

— Rickards 21, Suwannee 0: The Bulldogs (5-3) lost to the Raiders (1-4) at home Thursday night.

GIRLS TENNIS

— Columbia 5, Union County 2: Singles: No. 1 Allison Matsubara lost 8-4, No. 2 Adriana Velez lost 8-3, No. 3 Amanda Gonzalez won 8-1, No. 4 Cassidy O'Neal won 8-3, No. 5 Bailey Ring won 8-2; Doubles: No. 1 Matsubara/Gonzalez won 8-2, No. 2 Velez/O'Neal won 8-1.
