PREP ROUNDUP: Scores and stats from 3/31/23

BASEBALL

— Columbia 9, North Florida Christian 8: Camdon Frier hit two solo home runs on a 2-for-4 day and Josh Fernald (2 for 4) hit another home run as part of a 4-RBI day to lead the Class 5A No. 6 Tigers (14-2) past the Eagles (8-7) on the road Friday evening. CHS jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the second inning before holding on for a seventh straight win, which was also aided by two RBIs from Ayden Phillips (3 for 3) and another by Hayden Gustavson (2 for 4). Grant Bowers pitched three innings for the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits.

— Baker County 5, Suwannee 3: Easton Kirby allowed three runs in the top of the seventh inning and the Bulldogs (4-8) allowed the Class 4A No. 3 Wildcats (11-4) to rally for a District 2-4A win on Friday night. Kirby pitched a complete game for SHS in the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Ethan Layton went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Logan Brooks added an RBI for SHS.

— Branford 15, Cedar Key 0: Caden Coker, Dawson Cannon and Haiden Ward each had two RBIs to lead the Buccaneers (5-5) to a run-rule win over the Sharks (1-5). Andres Maysonet, Austin Humphries, Kyler Williamson, Camden Gaskins and Colby Beard each had one RBI. Tucker Floyd pitched one inning for the win, striking out a pair of batters.

— Madison County 3, Lafayette 2: The Class 1A No. 1 Hornets fell to the Cowboys in eight innings on the road Friday night. Dawsom Mock went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. He also suffered the loss in relief, giving up five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Starter Hyatt Richardson pitched five innings in a no-decision, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

— Branford 6, Lafayette 0: Madyson Sikes hit a solo home run and Ashlee Combee had two RBIs to lead the Class 1A No. 2 Buccaneers (12-2) past the Hornets (2-12) on the road Friday night in District 6-1A action. Alex Whitfield, Erika Rioux and Jesse Frierson added an RBI apiece. Laila Arnold threw a complete game, two-hitter in the circle and finished with 13 strikeouts.
