BASEBALL

— Columbia 19, Stockbridge (Ga.) 7; Columbia 4, Appling County (Ga.) 3: The Tigers (3-1) won both their games at Valdosta High on Saturday, topping Stockbridge (3-2) in their first contest before edging the Pirates (5-3) to cap off the day.

— Yulee 4, Suwannee 3: Ethan Layton allowed an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning to allow the Hornets (2-0) to escape with a road win over the Bulldogs (1-1) on Friday night. Easton Kirby went four innings to start for SHS, allowing three runs — two earned — on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts before Layton gave up just one hit and three walks with five strikeouts over the final three. Layton had an RBI double in the loss for SHS, which also got RBI hits from Connor Thompson and Kirby.

— Lafayette 3, Chiefland 0: Hyatt Richardson struck out eight and allowed just one hit in six innings to lead the Hornets (2-0) past the Indians (1-2) on the road Friday night. Matthew Jenkins shut the door in the seventh with two strikeouts while scattering a hit. Lane Brock went 1 for 3 with a two-RBI double.

SOFTBALL

— Columbia 14, Buchholz 3: McKenna O’Sullivan went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Alexis Blair was 1 for 3 with three more RBIs to lead the Tigers (3-0) to a run-rule victory over the Bobcats (0-2) on the road Friday night in six innings. Luisa Taylor went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Emily Delgado and Kimber Long both had an RBI. Sakiya Merriex went 3 for 5 with four runs scored and Anna Dnasby also scored two runs. Madelyn Jones got the win in the circle, allowing three runs — two earned — on four hits and seven walks while striking out seven.

— Suwannee 14, Bradford 1: Braylyn Federico went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and Gracie Watley was 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (3-0) to a run-rule victory over the Tornadoes (1-2) on the road Friday night in five innings. Haley Law was also 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Kirsten Yaun, Secora Pickles, Kailtyn Freeman and Abbey Ranck all had an RBI. Rachel Smith also went 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Watley threw all five innings in the circle, allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

— Baldwin 11, Fort White 1: Kadence Compton had a tough night in the circle, allowing 10 runs — seven earned — on seven hits and four walks as FWHS (1-1) was run-ruled by BHS (2-0) in five innings on the road Friday night. Compton struck out three in 2 1/3 innings as BHS struck for nine runs in the third. FWHS had just two hits — a home run by Compton and a double by Ciara Byrd.

— Lafayette 8, Dixie County 7: The Hornets (1-1) overcame an early five-run deficit and then held on to beat the Bears (1-2) at home Friday night. Clara Knight won the game in three innings of relief for LHS, allowing just two earned runs in the seventh while finishing with a pair of strikeouts against five hits and a walk. Gloria Gilliam started, lasting four innings where she surrendered five runs — one earned — on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Knight also had two RBIs on the night despite no hits, while Emma Revels went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI and Emma Swann was 1 for 4 with an RBI double. Ella Hancock, Kambry Moseley, Sidney Wimberley and Gilliam also had RBI hits.

— Branford 3, Union County 2: The Buccaneers (3-0) topped the Tigers (1-2) at home Friday night in District 6-1A action.

TRACK & FIELD

— Jesse Forbes Invitational: Suwannee competed at the 19th annual Jesse Forbes Invitational at Godby on Saturday. Winners for the boys included Taydren Derico (triple jump) and Will Wainwright (javelin). Wainwright also placed fourth in the discus. Highlights for the girls included Kay’lyona Cuffy placing third in the discus and Ryleigh Hermanson finishing fourth in the 3200 (12:58.20).
