Columbia’s softball team defeated Union County 6-1 and then followed that up with a 3-1 win over Gainesville to open the Raiders Invitational in Alachua on Friday night.
Kinley King pitched a complete game in the win over Union County, striking out four while allowing an earned run on seven hits. Alex Collins had two RBIs in the victory while Brooklynn White and Sakiya Merriex drove in a run apiece.
It was Harleigh Price’s turn in the circle against GHS. She allowed an earned run in the second inning but nothing more the rest of the night, only surrendering two hits and three walks while striking out five.
The Tigers (7-3) trailed GHS 1-0 before scoring a run in the third inning and two more in the fifth, all courtesy of RBIs from Luisa Taylor off pitcher Josie Kirwan.
CHS will face Bronson on Saturday as well as an opponent to be determined later in the day.
SOFTBALL
— Baker County 3, Fort White 0: After battling to a scoreless tie through seven innings, the Wildcats (7-0-1) struck for three in the eighth inning to snap the Indians’ six-game win streak at John Wilson Field on Friday night. Two of those runs came on a two-RBI double from Rylee Walker to finally break through against FWHS pitcher Kadence Compton, who allowed five hits and finished with 10 strikeouts. Grace Masterson pitched a complete game, one-hitter for BCHS and struck out 11 Indians (6-2).
— Williston 19, Suwannee 8: Luna Asencion drove in three runs and Sarah Hollender added two RBIs as the Red Devils (6-3) run-ruled the Bulldogs (2-4) in six innings Friday night in Live Oak. Kayden Green surrendered the first seven runs — four earned — on seven hits and a walk before Emalyn Watley gave up the next 12 — seven earned — on 10 hits and four walks while striking out four. Gracie Watley and Felicity May each had two RBIs in the loss while Addison Peterson and Maylee Gabey drove in a run each.
— Lafayette 15, Hamilton County 0: Khloe Crotts went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs while Brooke Lamb, Sidney Wimberley, Taycee Pridgeon, Bella Vann, Miley McCray, Clara Knight and Aminstyn Bass each drove in a run to lead the Hornets (4-4) to a run-rule victory over the Trojans (2-5) in four innings at home Friday night. Knight threw a one-hitter for the win, striking out six and walking just one.
BASEBALL
— Suwannee 5, Wakulla 1: Grayson Bonds went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs as the Bulldogs (5-5) snapped a three-game skid with a road win over the War Eagles (6-3) on Friday night. Gabe Garcia and Hampton Newman added an RBI apiece, while Colton Rogers, Noah Lopez, Jace Moran and Garcia pitched a combined three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Rogers picked up the win in four innings, allowing one hit while striking out seven.
— Branford 6, Chiefland 4: Troy Roberts went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs as the Buccaneers (7-4) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Indians (6-4) at home Friday night. Jackson Skinner and E’nalee Perry added an RBI apiece, while Kyler Williamson got the win in 1 1/3 innings of relief after allowing an earned run on two hits while striking out three. Patrick Williams made the start for BHS and pitched 5 2/3 innings where he allowed three runs — two earned — on four hits and five walks while striking out six.
