Columbia weightlifter Reece Chasteen placed ninth in the 199-pound weight class at the Class 2A state meet on Saturday in Panama City.

Chasteen finished with a 355 total, breaking her own school bench press record by five pounds with a lift of 200 to go with her 155 clean and jerk.

SOFTBALL

Columbia shut out Bradford 4-0 in Saturday's preseason finale at the Hal Brady Rec Center in Alachua.

Emma Edson pitched six innings while Zoryana Hughes shut the door in the seventh. Morgan Hoyle also hit a home run for the Lady Tigers while Caroline Lewis went 2 for 2 and Lucy Giebeig batted 2 for 3.

Columbia opens the regular season on Tuesday at Madison County.

WRESTLING

Despite Jayden Thomas and Ian McGuigan missing weight and not having wrestlers for two more weight classes, Columbia managed to pull out a fourth-place finish at the T.D. Talbott Duals at The Villages on Saturday.

The Tigers finished 4-1, losing to American Heritage 38-30 to start the day before defeating Union County 48-18, Masters Academy 60-12, Leesburg 57-11 and Belleview 57-24. Joseph Rice, Shawn Raggins, Preston O'Quinn, Jaycob Jones and Matthew Smith all went undefeated for CHS, which finishes the dual season 22-4.

Next up for Columbia is the District 2-2A Tournament on Feb. 22 at Lincoln.
