Suwannee’s girls cross country team won the Clay County Invitational on Saturday behind a second-place finish by Ryleigh Hermanson (20:50.50) and a third-place finish by Olivia Hermanson (21:19.01).
All five scorers for the SHS girls placed in the top 11 and four total in the top 10 to help the Bulldogs finish with 35 points ahead of runner-up St. Johns Country Day, which tallied 54 points. Sadie Siemon placed ninth (22:02.13), Arwen Haley finished 10th (22:05.34) and Virginia Mayhew came in 11th (22:48.33).
The Columbia girls placed sixth, led by Reese Todd’s 17th-place finish (24:01.33). Also scoring for the Tigers were Laelle Thompson in 29th (26:00.10), Kiara Thompson in 35th (26:37.22), Murphy Todd in 36th (26:37.47) and Melanie Gordon in 52nd (28:43.64).
Due to scoring issues at the event, the team scores for the boys were inaccurate and have yet to be updated. Suwannee runner Logan Haley led the area with a sixth-place finish in a time of 17:14.99 and behind him were four teammates who finished in the top 30 — Brig Scott in 15th (18:37.74), Kale Skinner in 24th (19:41.45), Brant Johnson in 27th (19:51.95) and Drew Hurst in 29th (20:08.48).
The Columbia boys had four top-20 finishes, led by Joshua Thompson in eighth with a time of 18:15.85. Next was Nathan Matsubara in 14th (18:34.69), John Ringenberg in 17th (18:39.96) and Brandyn Pope in 20th (19:00.68), while LaWarren Newton placed 49th (21:37.41).
