PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Season ends for Columbia boys with 13th-place finish in Region 1-3A

Columbia’s cross country season ended on Saturday as the boys finished 13th at the Region 1-3A meet at Matanzas High School.

The Tigers were hurt in the standings by only having six runners and tallied 353 points, quite far behind to St. Augustine’s 198 for eighth place and the final state berth. Fleming Island won the regional title with 58 points, while Leon (65), Ponte Vedra (77), Fort Walton Beach (140), Gulf Breeze (170), Lincoln (175) and Menedez (195) earned the other state bids.

Leading Columbia was Joshua Thompson in 64th with a time of 18:22.40, while Brandyn Pope wasn’t far behind in 68th at 18:32.00. Nolan Martin placed 74th (18:40.50) and Nathan Matsubara was 76th (18:47.40), but then there was a big drop off to Timothy Todd in 99th (20:05.00) and Dylan Aspenwell in 100th (20:09.30).
