Suwannee girls win meet, boys finish runner-up
The Suwannee girls cross country team ran away with the Suwannee Invitational at Heritage Park & Gardens on Tuesday behind a first-place finish from Olivia Hermanson, who posted a time of 20:20.30.
The Bulldogs had the top four runners in the events and finished with 17 points ahead of runner-up Branford, which tallied 86. Ryleigh Hermanson was right behind her sister in second at 20:34.80, while Sadie Siemon was third at 22:38.60 and Arwen Haley was fourth at 22:45.50. Madison Chamberlain topped off the scoring for SHS with a seventh-place finish at 23:04.10, though Virginia Mayhew also placed eighth at 23:05.50 and Montana Lewis was 12th at 24:02.50.
The Suwannee boys nearly made it a sweep at the meet but placed second with 48 points behind Community Christian School, which tallied 34. Logan Haley won the race to lead the Bulldogs, finishing with a time of 17:03.80. Brig Scott was next for SHS in fifth at 17:42.90, while Brant Johnson was 12th (18:41.70 ), Kale Skinner was 14th (18:55.10), Josiah Daniels was 19th (19:32.60 ) and Drew Hurst was 21st (19:58.60).
Kayleigh Ward led the Branford girls with a 10th-place finish with a time of 23:46.50 ahead of scoring teammates Kelbie Snider (13th, 24:18.30), Ella Harris (14th, 24:23.30), Callie Harris (28th, 26:53.00) and Brianna Barrs (29th, 26:59.60). Zander Hegenauer was the lone Branford boys runner to finish in the top 30, placing exactly 30th (20:54.40).
The Columbia boys finished third with 54 led by a sixth-place finish from Joshua Thompson (17:50.40). Also scoring for CHS were Nathan Matsubara in seventh (18:06.50), Brandyn Pope in ninth (18:28.70), John Dale Ringenberg in 11th (18:29.40) and Jacob McLeod in 24th (20:39.00).
The Columbia girls finished fourth with 102 points behind third-place P.K. Yonge (98). Murphy Todd led CHS in 18th (25:27.20) ahead of scoring teammates Kensi Shaw (22nd, 25:46.20), Melanie Gordon (24th, 25:47.50), Paola Ortiz (25th, 25:51.60) and Kiara Thompson (27th, 26:12.60).
