Lafayette quarterback Tucker Higginbotham is the inaugural LCR Athlete of the Week for Aug. 19-24, as voted by the readers.
Higginbotham, who completed 14 for 20 passes for 203 yards and threw five TDs in last Friday’s 38-12 win over Dixie County, received 308 (44%) of the 697 votes cast through noon on Wednesday in our online poll. He finished just ahead of Suwannee cross country runner Ryleigh Hermanson, who received 287 votes (41%), followed by Columbia quarterback Zamarion Jones (13%), Columbia volleyball player Sinei Wood (1%) and Columbia golfer Valin Capen (<1%).
The next poll will be online this weekend. Nominees will be derived from scores and stats uploaded to MaxPreps, sent in by coaches and from games attended by the LCR's reporters. Coaches can also send in nominees.
