Columbia third baseman Alex Collins was voted by the readers as the LCR Athlete of the Week for Feb. 17-22.
Collins received 718 of the 2,094 votes in our 15-nominee online poll following a week where she batted .400, had a .455 on-base percentage with two runs scored and hit a walk-off home run in a 6-5 win over Gainesville in extra innings, which was part of a 2-1 week for the Tigers. She just edged out Suwannee catcher Addison Peterson, who received 683 votes.
The next poll will be online this weekend. Nominees will be chosen from scores and stats uploaded to MaxPreps, sent in by coaches and from games attended by the LCR's reporters. Coaches can also send in nominees to jkroeger@lakecityreporter.com.
