Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil, a Columbia High alum, has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $75 million contact extension that makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.
Tunsil's deal includes a $30 million signing bonus with $50 million fully guaranteed and $60 million in total guarantees, according to ESPN. The contract extension surpasses the salary of 49ers left tackle Trent Williams, who makes $23.01 million per year.
The 28-year-old’s extension comes after being selected to his third Pro Bowl last season. He started all 17 games for the Texans in 2022, allowing just one sack while being ranked 17th among offensive tackles with a 91.9% pass block win rate.
Tunsil was a dominant force for Columbia High from 2009-2012 before going on to sign with Ole Miss in February of 2013. Following a stellar senior season where he helped lead Columbia to an 11-2 record and a regional final appearance, Tunsil was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A Player of the Year. He was also a first-team selection on the 2013 MaxPreps All-American team and was the No. 1 rated offensive lineman coming out of high school.
With Tunsil anchoring the offensive line, the Tigers rushed for 3,653 yards (7.9 per carry) in 2012.
The Miami Dolphins picked Tunsil 13th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
After three seasons with the Dolphins, Tunsil was traded to Houston.
