MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC throttles Pasco-Hernando State to stay unbeaten in Region 8

NEW PORT RICHEY — Amayoa’ah Phillips and Oakley Lewis each scored 16 points as Florida Gateway College drubbed Pasco-Hernando State College 90-62 on the road Saturday afternoon for a Region 8 win.

The Timberwolves (12-6, 2-0) also got 12 points, six rebounds and six assists from Antewan Webber, while Jazan Johnson added 11 off the bench. FGC shot it well from beyond the arc, making 8-of-13 3-pointers with Phillips making 3 of 4.

It was just a 9-point game at halftime before the Timberwolves outscored the Bobcats (1-13, 0-2) 46-27 in the second half. Ty’jahn Wright scored nine points in just eight minutes for FGC, which also saw Joseph Mitchell grab 11 rebounds to go with eight points off the bench.

Xavier Gordon-Somers led Pasco-Hernando State with 13 points, while Tyson Jet Maxam and Rico Thompson each had 12.

FGC will next face Florida State College at Jacksonville on Wednesday night at home with first place in the conference on the line. FSCJ improved to 15-5 and 2-0 in Region 8 with a 73-61 win over Palm Beach State on Saturday.
