GOLF ROUNDUP: Lafayette's Trey Galbraith qualifies for state, seasons end for Branford

While it wasn’t the best day overall for Lafayette, Trey Galbraith stood out individually to qualify for state.

Galbraith shot a 3-over 74 to place fifth out of 72 golfers at the Region 1-1A tournament at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on Monday afternoon, good enough to move on to the state tournament as the second lowest individual golfer who wasn’t on a state qualifying team. The senior made three birdies on the day and held on to finish in the top five despite back-to-back bogeys to finish the round.

The Hornets as a team finished 11th out of 12 teams with a 378 total. Episcopal won the regional title with a 294 and Bolles tallied 300 as the runner-up to grab the two automatic state bids.

Also scoring for Lafayette were Harrison Jackson and Harris Johnson with a pair of 95s to tie for 54th and Jason McCray with a 114 to finish 70th.

Branford sophomore Gavin Barnes shot a 91 to tie for 49th.

The golf season came to an end for the Branford girls on Monday as they placed ninth out of 10 teams with a 454 total at the Region 1-1A tournament Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.
