Residents of Suwannee and Hamilton counties will have to wait to publicly address their state legislators.

The legislative delegation hearings for those two counties, originally set for Tuesday, have been rescheduled after a special session was called for this week in Tallahassee. The legislature began the special session Monday, which is highlighted by discussion of immigration issues, with a vote expected to take place Tuesday on the new legislation proposed Monday to support President Donald Trump's immigration policies.

The special session was called Jan. 13 by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The legislature ended that session Monday shortly after it began before opening its own special session.

The local delegation hearings have now been set for Monday, Feb. 10. Sen. Corey Simon (R-Tallahassee) and Rep. Jason Shoaf (R-Port St. Joe) will now appear in Hamilton County at 11 a.m. on Feb. 10 before heading to Suwannee County for a 2 p.m. hearing.

The legislative delegation holds a public hearing each year to afford local officials, members of the public and other interested parties the opportunity to present legislative proposals or express opinions on state issues.

The Florida Legislature's 2025 regular session convenes on Tuesday, March 4, in Tallahassee.

The Lafayette County legislative hearing is still set for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Lafayette County Courthouse, 120 W. Main Street in Mayo.
