SCSO: Husband, wife found shot and killed Saturday morning.
FALMOUTH — Suwannee County and state investigators continue to investigate a Saturday morning double homicide.
Suwannee County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the intersection of 40th Path and 167th Road in western Suwannee County around 6:30 a.m. Saturday after a 911 call about a death.
Once deputies arrived, they found a male lying on the ground outside an open driver's door of a vehicle, who had been shot and was dead, according to a SCSO release.
In the front passenger seat of the vehicle was a female, who also had been shot and was dead.
The identities of the victims will not be released, according to the sheriff's office, citing Marsy's Law.
The victims, though, were husband and wife and in their late 40s, according to Sheriff Sam St. John.
"These things just don't happen here," St. John said Sunday after his investigators along with agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement had spent two days investigating the case. "We haven't stopped since yesterday morning.
Once investigators arrived at the scene Saturday and determined it was a homicide, they requested assistance from FDLE, who processed the scene for forensic evidence.
St. John said authorities have several leads they have been working on the case, but "nothing has panned out" yet. He added investigators are awaiting search warrants being issued to continue pursuing some leads.
"Further information will be released when appropriate to maintain this investigation's integrity," SCSO said in a release.
