Panhandle border checkpoint closes following Phase 2 of reopening

PENSACOLA — Florida is wide open. At least on its Panhandle border.

The Interstate 10 checkpoint at the Alabama-Florida state line was disbanded Friday once Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Phase 2 reopening plan of Florida went into effect.

State health department and law enforcement officials had been stopping out-of-state vehicles entering the state and gathering information from motorists on questionnaires about their origination points and their destinations.

The checkpoint was in place to help curb the spread of covid-19 and also to track the potential spread of the virus.

The Interstate 95 checkpoint at the Florida/Georgia state line in Nassau County remains active at this time. Future updates will be provided via FDOT’s social media platforms and via news releases sent to print outlets.
