Fiery crash on I-75 kills Georgia man

WHITE SPRINGS — A Georgia man was killed after hitting a dump truck that struck an interstate overpass Monday.

A dump truck, headed north on Interstate 75 with its lift box elevated, struck the County Road 136 overpass at the White Springs exit just before 9 p.m. Monday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol release.

The FHP release states a gray Ford Bronco, also headed northbound, then struck the back of the lift box, which was lodged beneath the overpass, and caught fire.

The driver of the Bronco, a 67-year-old man from Hawkinsville, Georgia, was transported to an area hospital. However, he died there from the injuries sustained in the accident.

The passenger in the Ford, a 68-year-old Hawkinsville woman, was also taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries’ according to FHP.

The dump truck driver, a 51-year-old Colorado man, was not injured.

The overpass sustained very minor damage according to the Florida Department of Transportation. Repairs will be made at a later date.
