Curfew issued for Suwannee County

LIVE OAK - Hurricane Debby’s impact now includes a curfew in Suwannee County.

The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office has implemented a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Monday, Aug. 5.

“Your safety is our top priority and due to rising waters and deteriorating road conditions, the roadways are not safe to travel at night,” the SCSO release announcing the curfew stated. “Please remain indoors and avoid any non-essential travel during these hours. Your cooperation is appreciated, as we work to maintain order and protect our community.”

Debby, which was a Category 1 hurricane when it made landfall Monday morning near Steinhatchee, moved slowly across North Florida. That slow movement gave time for plenty of rain to fall with reports of nearly 12 inches of rain by early afternoon, according to the Weather Channel.

That large amount of rain left most of downtown Live Oak under water, as well as issues on other roadways in the county.
