Device had no charge equipped per bomb squad.
HIGH SPRINGS — An explosive device found Sunday morning in a south Columbia County bar’s parking lot turned out to be not so explosive.
Alerted by a passerby around 8:30 a.m. Sunday to the device lying in the parking lot of Billy’s Santa Fe Bar on U.S. Highway 441 near the Alachua County line, deputies blocked off the area while requesting assistance from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, according to a CCSO release.
Upon inspection, the device was determined not to be equipped with a charge, the release states, and the area was cleared of any other concerns.
The CCSO continues to investigate how the device got there.
Sgt. Steven Khachigan, a CCSO spokesman, said Tuesday morning that there has been no new information on how the device got to the bar’s parking lot or how long it was there.
Khachigan added that the ACSO bomb squad took the device with them so “it could be disposed of properly.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact CCSO dispatch at 386-719-2005.
