A stretch of U.S. Highway 441 was closed Thursday morning in northern Columbia County due to smoke and fog.

The roadway was back open, as of 9 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP had announced at 7 a.m. that U.S. 441 was closed from approximately one mile north of Interstate 10 to Lassie Black Street. The closure was caused by a combination of heavy smoke and dense fog or a super fog.

According to FHP, drivers should seek other routes until driving conditions improve in the area.
