Three Jacksonville men targeted employee; wounded CHS employee an innocent bystander
Apiag, Green, Williams-Loscalzo
An ongoing feud from Jacksonville led to two Lake City Arby’s employees being shot Thursday morning.
The two employees were shot inside the restaurant at the U.S. Highway 90 and Interstate 75 interchange around 11:30 a.m. Thursday after three Jacksonville men drove two vehicles to Lake City to target Jayden Randall, whom they had a feud with in Jacksonville. Randall currently is working at the Lake City Arby’s through a Department of Corrections “work release” program. The other victim is a 17-year-old Columbia High student who was an innocent bystander, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Darion Apiag, also known as DJ, David Green, also known as Dave, and Anthony Williams-Loscalzo were all captured following a high-speed chase on I-75 north and arrested. Apiag, who is 20 years old, was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery and fleeing law enforcement; Green, also 20, was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery, tampering with evidence and fleeing law enforcement; and Williams-Loscalzo, 18, was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery and fleeing law enforcement.
Sgt. Steven Khachigan, a CCSO spokesman, said Friday that it is not known if the shooting was gang-affiliated.
Witnesses told investigators that they saw two men dressed in all black and wearing ski masks exit the front seat of an SUV with handguns and enter the store, according to a CCSO report. The suspects then approached the counter and began shooting at Randall, who retreated into the kitchen. The suspects pursued while continuing to shoot. According to the report, Randall was shot seven times and was flown to a trauma center for treatment of serious injuries. He underwent emergency surgery Thursday.
A CCSO release Friday said Randall remains in the hospital in serious condition.
The CHS student, whose identity the Reporter is not releasing because he is a juvenile, was hit by a bullet as he tried to find cover. The CCSO release said the student had no prior involvement with any of the suspects. The student was released from HCA Lake City Medical Center on Thursday.
The CCSO report state the suspects exited the store after firing the shots and got into an SUV and fled south on Commerce Drive. It was later found abandoned near SW Commerce Drive and SW Real Terrace. The SUV also was reported stolen out of Jacksonville on June 20.
According to the report, the suspects were also seen fleeing in a white car which was spotted moments later by a responding deputy. The car then fled north on I-75, leading a chase at speeds up to 125 mph. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper initiated a PIT maneuver on the car near mile marker 437 in Suwannee County, which ended the chase as the car rolled over.
During the chase, suspects threw a firearm and other evidence from the vehicle. A Florida Fish and Wildlife K9 team recovered the handgun Friday morning along I-75, according to the CCSO release.
The CCSO report states that a witness told deputies that his truck was hit by something thrown out of the car’s window, which led to a 50-round “drum” firearm magazine found at mile marker 432.
In the release, the CCSO thanks the FHP, Lake City Police Department, Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement, FWC, Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Lake City Fire Department, Columbia EMS, Columbia County Fire Rescue, HCA Lake City, the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office and Florida Department of Corrections for their assistance.
