Two people were shot early Saturday morning during a block party on the northwest side of Lake City.
Lake City police officers were dispatched around 1:24 a.m. Saturday to 698 NW Mississippi Way in reference to a report of a person shot, according to a Lake City Police Department release.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male on the ground suffering from two gunshot wounds to his lower body, ann LCPD release states. Officers immediately rendered aid until EMS arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.
While surveying the scene, officers discovered multiple spent shell casings of various calibers in the roadway and on surrounding private property, according to the release. Three vehicles were located with apparent bullet damage. Officers documented the scene and collected evidence.
During the investigation, officers were advised that a second gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital via private vehicle, the release states. That individual was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Detectives interviewed the victim, who stated he was attending a block party when gunfire erupted.
At this time, no suspects have been identified. The Lake City Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating.
"We are thankful that this incident did not result in any fatalities," Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler said in the release. "However, this level of gun violence is unacceptable, and we are committed to pursuing those responsible. We ask anyone with information to come forward."
