Two men were hospitalized Saturday evening with gunshot wounds from an incident blocks away from Melrose Park Elementary School.
According to a Lake City Police Department release, the scene of the shooting covered three city blocks along SE Avalon Avenue in the area of SE Dade Street.
Melrose Park is located at the corner of SE Putnam Street and SE Ermine Avenue, one block east of Avalon Avenue and a block south of Dade Street.
The LCPD release states that officers responded to SE Dade Street to the report of gunshots around 6:23 p.m. Saturday.
While officers were en route, dispatchers alerted them that two victims were on the way to HCA Lake City Hospital in a private vehicle.
The release states that officers, who detoured to the hospital, met with the pair of male victims there. One suffered a wound to the shoulder and the other a wound to the wrist. Both were treated at the hospital, the release states.
The officers that went to the scene of the incident, secured the three-block area and interviewed witnesses. Evidence was processed by LCPD investigators and crime scene technicians from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
