Rhonda K. Sherrod, CEO of three area hospitals, is stepping down from her post as two of the facilities under her umbrella are on the verge of being sold.

Sherrod, who oversees Shands Lake Shore, Shands Live Oak and Shands Starke Regional Medical Center, is resigning from her position effective April 30, according to a written statement. She worked with the hospitals for 33 years.

“The Medical Staff, Board Members, Employees and Volunteers appreciate all of Rhonda’s contributions to the hospitals and wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” wrote Linda Silecchia, communications director for the three hospitals. “A search to identify Rhonda’s replacement will begin which will include the Board of Trustees and Medical Staff members.”

The Live Oak and Starke facilities are being sold by parent company Community Health Systems. The buyer is Hospital Corporation of America, owner of Lake City Medical Center.

The deal was announced in February.
