A Columbia County School District student suffered minor injuries when the school bus they were riding on Thursday afternoon was hit by a pickup truck.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the northbound bus was trying to turn right from State Road 47 to SW Walter Avenue when it was hit at 2:14 p.m. Thursday.

The FHP release said the pickup, which was driven by a 31-year-old Lake City man, was following the bus before running into the right side of the bus as it attempted to turn.

There were 20 students on the bus at the time of the crash, according to FHP. One of those students had minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the crash before being release to his parents.

The pickup driver also suffered minor injuries.

The bus driver, a 54-year-old Lake City man, was not injured.

Both the bus and the pickup were towed from the crash site, according to FHP.
