A Lake City police officer was shot Sunday night during an Easter celebration at Annie Mattox Park.
According to a Lake City Police Department release, officers from the LCPD and deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were providing crowd control for the celebration, which regularly draws thousands of attendees.
Around 8:06 p.m., an altercation occurred between several attendees at the event and gunshots were fired while officers and deputies tried to intervene, the release states. One LCPD officer was struck by gunfire.
Three individuals were taken into custody at the scene and are currently being interviewed by detectives to determine their involvement, if any, the release states. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
The injured officer was transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment, according to the release. He was awake and communicative with officers and paramedics during transport.
The LCPD is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video footage to contact detectives at 386-752-4343.
