Man killed when Impala goes airborne, hits pole

A Lake City man died late Friday when his Impala went airborne then struck a light pole on County Road 25A, according to FHP.

Gary Stone, 55, was headed north when he missed a left curve approaching U.S. 41 at 11:26 p.m. and ran into a railroad bed, sending his 2001 Chevy skyward, a news release said. The car hit the ground, flipped and hit the pole, coming to rest on its passenger side.

Alcohol was not a factor, the release stated.

The release said it was not clear if Stone was wearing a seat belt.
